Three Doctors
You know, my life was fairly normal
Until I couldn’t breathe
I don’t know how I got here
Or when they’ll let me leave
I feel just like an inmate
Without pardon or reprieve
And who knows what hocus-pocus
They might still have up their sleeves?
My doctor’s got no patience
I know ‘cause we’ve conferred
We’re playin’ twenty questions
I can’t tell if I’ve been heard
And this latest diagnosis
Just seems patently absurd
I think I need a fresh opinion
And I just might want a third
I’ve got three doctors at my bedside
Six icy eyes at my bed
And this can’t be a good sign
With those buzzards ‘round my head
The first doc says that I’m dying
The second one pronounces me dead
And the third one says I’m not long for this world
With those buzzards ‘round my head
I’m on the last legs of a short ride
I’m on the downslope with my eyes wide
You know, the road to my extinction
Was a tortured, twisted thing
With only hints and guesses
As to what my luck might bring
And on the way I chanced to meet
A peasant, priest and king
As they danced their sad, reminding dirge
Of death’s sure, final sting
You know, my life has been contracted
To the four walls of this room
Don’t know what still awaits me
Or for what I’m being groomed
Don’t know how many threads
I still have hangin’ from the loom
I can’t see beyond my nose
But I can smell the scent of doom
I’ve got three doctors at my bedside
Six icy eyes at my bed
And this can’t be a good sign
With those buzzards ‘round my head
The first doc says that I’m dying
The second one pronounces me dead
And the third one says I’m not long for this world
With those buzzards ‘round my head
I’m on a fast track to the twelve gates
I’ve been checked through by the Three Fates
I’ve got three doctors at my bedside
Six icy eyes at my bed
And this can’t be a good sign
With those buzzards ‘round my head
The first doc says that I’m dying
The second one pronounces me dead
And the third one says I’m not long for this world
With those buzzards ‘round my head
